Sports Med Fellows 2009-2010
J.C. Clark, M.D..
Dr. Clark graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa
City, IA where he was selected to the Junior Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor
Society. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at the
University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. During residency, he published
several book chapters including one on Primary ACL Reconstruction with
Allograft for the April edition of Clinics in Sports Medicine. He also did
research on the golf swing in elderly golfers after reverse total shoulder
arthroplasty. In 2008, he attended the AOA Resident Leadership Forum in
Quebec and in 2009 he participated in the AOA Emerging Leaders Forum in
Naples. He was awarded the Resident Teacher Award in April 2009 by the
University of Florida. Interests outside of medicine include golf, swimming
with his son, and exercise. Dr. Clark comes to Steadman Hawkins with his
wife, Cherie, and son, Tyler.
Wade Krause, M.D..
Dr. Krause,originally from Three Rivers, TX, completed his undergraduate
studies at Grinnell College in Iowa where he competed in track and football
and earned all-conference honors. He attended medical school at The
University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio and completed his
residency training at the Fort Worth Affiliated Hospitals Orthopaedic
Residency Program. During residency, he was named Intern of the Year and
helped cover athletic events at several local high schools and universities.
He is currently involved in research with Dr. Hawkins evaluating outcomes in
reverse total shoulder arthroplasty. Outside of medicine, Dr. Krause enjoys
golf, running, and spending time with his five dogs. He comes to Greenville
with his wife, Jennifer, and daughter, Keira.
J.J. Stefancin, M.D.
Dr. Stefancin is a graduate of the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio.
He then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed his residency training
at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. During this time, Dr Stefancin spent an
extra year of training to research the effects of fatigue on non-contact
anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in female collegiate athletes.
Interests outside of orthopaedic surgery include spending time with his wife
(Jennifer) and two children (Evan and Jas), college and professional
football, and fishing.
Matt Wallace, M.D.
Dr. Wallace completed his medical school training at the University of Texas
at San Antonio and was elected Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his
orthopedic residency at the Mayo Clinic. His current research interests
include outcomes in hip arthroscopy and the accuracy of the clinical
assessment of patella mobility. His personal interests include basketball,
golf, skiing, hiking and camping. He and his wife, Kristin, have 5
children-- Andrew, Caleb, Isaac, Adam and Grace.
John Zavala, M.D.
Dr. Zavala graduated from the University of Texas - Southwestern Medical
School in 2004 where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.
He subsequently completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Georgetown
University Hospital in Washington, DC. While in residency, he was elected
to participate in the American Orthopaedic Association Resident Leadership
Forum. His research interests have included fixation in anterior cruciate
ligament reconstructions and multimodal analgesia in total knee
arthroplasty. His interests outside of medicine include golf, fishing,
politics, reading history, and spending time with his family. Dr. Zavala
moves to Greenville with his wife, Sarah Katherine, and their daughter,
Victoria.
