| After months of construction, the new ORFC Surgical Training and Innovation Lab located on the Patewood Campus of Greenville Memorial Hospital University Medical Center is open and available to surgeons, device manufacturers and others who will benefit from sessions in this one-of-a-kind bioskills center.
The lab features Smith & Nephew endoscopic surgical stations and instrumentation, a conference center for didactic sessions and full support for specimen procurement, session set up and all activities related to surgical training with cadavers.
The first group training session was conducted with the Greenville Memorial Hospital University Medical Center Orthopaedic Residents. Fifteen residents spent time in the new conference room discussing the anatomy of the foot and ankle and then moved over to the lab where the ORFC team provided four specimens for the surgeons to work with. This is the first of what will become a monthly “Cadaver” session for these residents. General Surgery and OBGYN are scheduling sessions for their educational advancement as well.
Device manufacturers are also beginning to utilize this unique demonstration space. The ORFC Lab Staff worked along with Cayenne Medical to demonstrate their ACL surgical repair system. Eight Surgeons and four Residents participated in this educational opportunity.
