Total Knee Replacements with Long Interlocking Stems for Extensive Bone Loss, Juan J. Rodrigo, MD, Jeff Nyman, Ph.D., Scott Hazelwood, Ph.D.

Introduction: Difficult total knee replacements occur when extensive bone loss exists, usually with revisions. We hypothesized that long stemmed interlocking prosthesis would provide a successful construct. Read the abstract.

Treatment of Total Knee Replacements with Allergies Against One or More Components, Juan J. Rodrigo, MD, Scott Southard, MD, Tonya Stott, Jennifer H. Miley, Paige Boatwright

Introduction: Evidence has accumulated that immune responses can occur against ions from metals, metal alloys, polyethylene, or methylmethacrylate (1-12). We hypothesized that some patients could be managed with non-operative treatment of the allergic reaction (methotrexate, immuran, azathioprine, etc.)We hypothesized that removing the materials responsible for the allergic reaction and revising with different materials would improve the status of the failed total knee, if non-operative treatment failed. Read the abstract.

Predictors of Improved Quality of Cartilage Healing After Microfracture Are Time, Increased Holes and Synovial Hypertrophy, Juan J. Rodrigo, MD, Deenesh Sahajpal, MD, Steven B. Singleton, MD, Alfred Kuo, MD, PhD, Kurt Anderson, MD, Kara B. Acampora

Introduction: It was hypothesized that healing after microfracture could be improved if more holes were used, more time was allowed for healing, and increased mesenchymal hypertrophy occurred at the edge of the cartilage. Read the abstract.
